UNDERSTANDING THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT

This war far away has had dramatic effects here at home. The conflict is generating strong emotions and eroding the sense of belonging for many, impacting our workplaces, our public institutions and our communities in myriad ways.

In this talk, we aim to shed some light on these issues by stepping away from the noise of social media in order to better understand the historical context of this conflict. We explain the stories of this land and these peoples and explain how key events in the past have led us to this place of conflict. This talk aims for balance by sharing some facts as well as explaining at different points both the pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian perspectives to help listeners understand different stances and interpretations.

Listeners will learn:

  • The impact of key events in the past century including wars, peace attempts, and protests

  • The impact of key figures who won Nobel Prizes and suffered assassinations

  • How antisemitism and a history of persecution impacts Jewish attachment to Israel

  • How anti-Arab racism has led to the patronizing and ignoring of Palestinians

  • A greater understanding of how each side interprets history and their place in this story

This talk will help you understand the impact of this conflict on your colleagues, clients, communities, and on world events more clearly and be able to respond more wisely and compassionately to those most directly impacted.
